What are the risks of using someone else’s iPhone charger?

The OMG Cable, available online for $200, is a highly dangerous USB cable that can intercept keystrokes, steal data and credentials, and install malware on devices.

It is crucial for the user to avoid using a borrowed charger that closely resembles the original iPhone cable.

Jake Moore from ESET shared his thoughts in an interview with Forbes.

Invaders employ different methods in precise attacks to monitor their targets, and these cables serve as another weapon in their arsenal.

OMG Cable is considered the most hazardous plant cable.

OMG Cable functions in an astonishingly impressive manner, featuring processing capabilities, payload, and even serving as a Wi-Fi access point. Remarkably, despite its compact size, it closely resembles Apple’s original cable, essentially functioning as a mini-computer at the cable’s end.

The OMG cables were created to assist researchers in testing companies’ defenses, even though they have been utilized for malicious purposes.

Despite the presence of a deceptive technical plug, the cables are designed for practical purposes. Researchers and teams use them to assess company defenses by testing if employees fall for the trap set by devices left by employees or nearby cables.

The cables were initially created to target Macs and PCs when plugged into a smartphone charging cable.

“Our original cables did not possess this feature, however, our Type C cables included it as an additional tool, designed to permit researchers and educators to carry out experiments, while reducing the effectiveness for individuals attempting to utilize surveillance applications,” Grover explained in an interview with Forbes.
