Transform your regular bicycle into an electric one with this RedBull kit.

Electric vehicles are trendy, but converting a traditional gasoline car into an electric one is more complex than just adding a 4kg box. However, in the realm of bicycles, this is possible with the help of Red Bull Advanced Technologies (RBAT) and an innovative concept.

The device referred to as Skarper is a stylish box that can be connected to the back wheel of most bikes with disc brakes, transforming them into electric bikes.

The removable kit weighs 4 kg and measures 34 cm in length. It includes a 240Wh battery connected to a 250W motor. Additionally, there is an exchange box located in the rear brake disc, which Skarper provides for users to install on their bikes.

The brakes function as usual, while this component transfers torque to the rear wheel through the hub. RBAT utilized its F1 expertise to enhance the system’s strength, reliability, and efficiency.

How does it operate?

You generate power for the bike through pedaling, while the Skarper kit offers additional assistance similar to electric bikes. Sensors connected to the pedals and unit determine the level of assistance based on the incline, with more tilt resulting in greater engine support.

Autonomy and Cost

The range is 60 km with a charging time of 2.5 hours. The battery can be attached and detached quickly, making it convenient for commuting with an electric bike. If you want a more strenuous workout, simply detach the battery.

The cost is high at £1,295 (approximately R$ 8.026), which may seem expensive due to its newness. It is possible that advancements in technology could eventually make ebikes more affordable.
